Man drives nail 8cm into skull and survives

In a bizarre case in Meerut, a 22-year-old resident of Old Mohanpuri drove a large nail into his head using a log.

According to Dr Pradip Bharti, neurosurgeon, at Meerut Medical College, who operated Prashant, said that he was a psychiatric patient, and his condition had worsened after he witnessed the Victoria Park fire two years ago. He said that Prashant had attempted to kill himself many times and driving a nail into his skull was his latest bid.

Doctors said there was nothing unusual in Prashant's condition, but don't rule out the chance of infection. Bharti said, ‘‘Prashant is very lucky. That the nail that went eight centimetres into his head did not hit the brain. He will survive. He will face problems if the nail rusts. Chances are that the infection could even kill him."

The hospital has been drawing huge crowds wanting to see Prashant, who is recuperating at the intensive care unit after his surgery.
